‘Crip Camp’ review: An empowering disability activism documentary you must watch

April 22, 2020 By Ahmed Khalifa

Image for post with title: ''Crip Camp' Review: An Empowering Disability Activism Documentary You Must Watch - A Netflix documentary about a movement by disabled people who wants to be treated as equal by society and the law'

A recent documentary called ‘Crip Camp’ has brought light to a forgotten part of history in the U.S which started a revolution for disabled people to be treated as equals.

This is an empowering documentary, one that got me emotional, which really hits home on how hard people have to fight to be treated as humans and equal to everyone else.

‘Why I started #WhereIsTheInterpreter’ – an interview with Lynn-Stewart Taylor

April 7, 2020 By Ahmed Khalifa

Post image with title: 'Why I Started the Campaign to have interpreters at emergency broadcasts - An Interview with Lynn-Stewart Taylor about why she started #WhereIsTheInterpreter'

In an interview with Deaf consultant and BSL user Lynn-Stewart Taylor, I had the opportunity to talk to her about the campaign #WhereIsTheInterpreter and why she felt the need to start it.

I’ve talked about it in the previous episode but I felt it was important to learn straight from the source on why this is necessary and to understand better about the benefits of this campaign BSL users.

#WhereIsTheInterpreter – The fight for interpreters during live emergency broadcasts

April 1, 2020 By Ahmed Khalifa

Image for blog post with title: 'The Fight for Interpreters during Live Emergency Broadcasts - #WhereIsTheInterpreter'

It is critical for everyone to be informed of the important guidelines that we need to follow when there is a global pandemic and it is a life and death situation.

Unfortunately, d/Deaf people are not informed as adequately as they should be.

Even though there are government guidelines to be followed when they do their live emergency broadcasting, deaf/Deaf sign language users tend to be forgotten about.

Hence why the hashtag #WhereIsTheInterpreter, originally started by Lynn Stewart-Taylor, has been trending in the UK to do something about this.

How I make and take video calls as a deaf person?

March 25, 2020 By Ahmed Khalifa

Image for blog post with title: 'How I Make & Take Video Calls as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Person? - Learn how I adapt and handle video calls for work and personal use, even though I'm not able to hear everything'

Video calls are on the rise. With more people working from home, remote working (or living in isolation because of a global pandemic) and with so many tools available to help us, more and more people are making use of video calls even for personal use too. But what about for someone like me who […]

Why equal access to content is critical during national & global emergencies

March 19, 2020 By Ahmed Khalifa

Image for blog post with title: 'Why Equal Access to Content is Critical During National & Global Emergencies - During those life-threatening moments, d/deaf and hard of hearing people are often left out of important information

At a time of recording, there is a global pandemic with coronavirus affecting the entire world. But with so much important to follow, it’s so important to make sure that there is equal access to those content for those who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing.

At this moment in time, it’s more important than ever to make sure there is equal access to those content. It will not just protect those who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing, but also those around them too, as I explain in this podcast.

The more we fight each other, the more the barriers will grow

March 11, 2020 By Ahmed Khalifa

Image for post with title: 'The More We Fight Each Other, the More The Barriers Will Grow - Instead of focusing our energy on being "right", we should try to work together to reduce barriers'

Recently, I’ve noticed that there are some d/Deaf and hard of hearing people who are more focused on arguing and being “right” against others who are also d/Deaf and hard of hearing.

But focusing our energy on going against each other will do nothing to the barriers that exist in our lives. If anything, they will remain or even continue to grow.

“Dear taxi drivers…” – from a deaf passenger

February 19, 2020 By Ahmed Khalifa

Post image for blog with title written: ""Dear Taxi Drivers..." - From a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Passenger"

As part of my message to taxi drivers and companies, I want to share my own experience (and for others) on how, by working together, the driver and passengers can have a smoother process.

Because if taxi drivers can be deaf aware of what to do when they have deaf/hard of hearing passengers, it will avoid all sorts of awkwardness, complications and miscommunications.

And the process of getting from A to B will be a smoother one for everyone involved.
